A disturbing incident at a Walmart store in Florida has gone viral after a younger woman allegedly attacked an elderly shopper during a simple disagreement in a checkout line. The situation, which began as a minor argument, quickly turned physical and has now led to criminal charges.
Woman Accused of Attacking Elderly Shopper
A 34-year-old woman named Keri Estep has been charged with battery against a person over the age of 65. The incident involved a 79-year-old woman at a Walmart store in Sunrise, Florida.
Police say the situation escalated quickly, turning a verbal disagreement into a physical attack. The case has raised concerns about public behaviour and respect towards senior citizens.
Argument Started Over Checkout Line
The incident happened on January 23 while both women were standing in line at the store. According to reports, Estep accused the elderly woman of cutting in front of her.
The older woman denied the claim, explaining that there were two lines and she had not pushed ahead of anyone. However, the disagreement soon became heated.
Situation Turned Physical
After the argument, Estep allegedly became aggressive and attacked the elderly woman. Police reports state that she struck the woman in the chest and later kicked her.
The victim later told officers that Estep insulted her by calling her an “old lady” and said she “deserved” the attack. This statement has shocked many people and added seriousness to the case.
Security Guard Tried to Intervene
A security guard at the store noticed the argument and stepped in to prevent it from turning violent. He told police that Estep claimed the elderly woman had hit her shopping cart, which had her baby in it.
However, the older woman denied touching the cart. Despite the guard’s efforts to separate them, Estep reportedly moved around him and kicked the woman.
Victim Shares Her Experience
In police body-camera footage, the elderly woman described the attack in detail. She said Estep suddenly reached out and kicked her in the side.
Although she did not require medical treatment, she clearly stated that she wanted to take legal action against Estep.
Accused Admits Her Version Was Wrong
When police later questioned Estep, she claimed she acted out of concern for her baby and believed the older woman was behaving aggressively.
However, after officers reviewed store surveillance footage, they informed Estep that the video supported the victim’s version of events. At that point, Estep admitted that her earlier statement was not accurate.
Charges Filed and Bail Granted
Estep has been officially charged with battery against a person over 65 years old, which is considered a serious offence.
She was taken into custody and later released after posting a bail amount of $2,500. Details about her next court hearing have not yet been made public.
