A Kentucky man is facing multiple criminal charges after a deadly crash at a bus stop left one woman dead and four others injured. Authorities say the driver admitted he had been drinking alcohol before the incident but claimed his intoxication was not responsible for the crash.
The tragic accident occurred in Shively, a suburb located just south of Louisville, and has shocked the local community.
Woman Killed in Bus Stop Crash
According to police, five people were standing at a bus stop near the intersection of Dixie Highway and Rockford Lane on Monday when a pickup truck suddenly drove into the area.
Investigators say the vehicle first ran a red light and collided with another vehicle before continuing forward and crashing into the group waiting at the bus stop.
The impact killed 43-year-old Danielle Cordes and injured four other people.
Authorities reported that two of the injured victims suffered life-threatening injuries and were rushed for emergency medical treatment.
Driver Arrested and Charged
Police identified the driver as 45-year-old Kevin Moore.
Following the crash, officers arrested Moore and charged him with several serious offences, including:
| Charge | Description |
|---|---|
| Murder | Related to the death of Danielle Cordes |
| First-Degree Assault | Causing serious injury |
| First-Degree Wanton Endangerment | Recklessly putting lives at risk |
| Fourth-Degree Assault | Additional injury-related charge |
| DUI (Alcohol) | Operating a vehicle under the influence |
| Reckless Driving | Dangerous driving behaviour |
| Traffic Signal Violation | Allegedly running a red light |
| First-Degree Criminal Mischief | Property damage allegations |
Moore was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Tuesday.
Police Say Driver Admitted Drinking
According to arrest documents, Moore admitted that he had been driving the black Chevrolet Silverado involved in the crash.
Police say he acknowledged drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel and reportedly told officers he had consumed tequila about an hour before the incident.
However, authorities claim Moore insisted that the accident was not his fault despite admitting he was intoxicated.
The statement became a key part of the investigation.
Refused Sobriety Test
According to police records, Moore declined to participate in a field sobriety test.
Authorities stated that he allegedly told officers there was no point because he already knew he was drunk.
Instead, investigators say he requested to be taken directly to jail.
Officers also reported observing several signs of impairment, including:
- The smell of alcohol on his breath
- Difficulty maintaining balance
- Unsteady movements while standing
These observations were included in the arrest report.
Community Mourns Victim
The death of Danielle Cordes has left family members, friends, and community members grieving.
The crash occurred in a public area where several people were simply waiting for transportation when the tragedy unfolded.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision while the injured victims receive medical care.
Court Proceedings Begin
Kevin Moore was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday following his arrest.
Prosecutors are expected to present evidence related to the crash, including witness statements, police reports, and any available forensic findings.
As the case moves through the legal system, investigators will continue working to determine the full sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.
The incident serves as another reminder of the serious dangers associated with impaired driving. A routine wait at a bus stop turned into a devastating tragedy that claimed one life and left several others injured. The outcome of the court proceedings will determine Moore’s legal responsibility, while the community continues to mourn the loss of Danielle Cordes and support those recovering from their injuries.
