A heartbreaking case involving a New York woman who died while celebrating her birthday in Jamaica is now being investigated as a murder. Authorities say the woman was left unconscious at a hospital in a wheelchair before later being pronounced dead, and her partner is now in police custody.
New York Woman Dies During Jamaica Birthday Trip
Melissa Samnath, a 35-year-old woman who held both Jamaican and American citizenship, died on April 29 at a hospital in St. James, Jamaica.
According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Samnath was brought to the hospital by Dane Watson, a man police believe was her husband. Investigators said Watson allegedly helped her out of a vehicle and left her at the medical facility before driving away.
Hospital staff later discovered Samnath unconscious in a wheelchair.
Victim Had Visible Injuries
Local reports stated that Melissa Samnath had visible signs of violence on her body when she arrived at the hospital.
Medical workers reportedly contacted police after she was pronounced dead.

Nearly three weeks after Samnath’s death, Dane Watson was taken into police custody on May 16 after relatives reportedly turned him in to authorities.

Melissa’s sister, Liza Marie Samnath, shared emotional details about the final messages she received from Melissa before her death.
According to local media reports, Melissa allegedly texted her sister asking her to contact police and check her location.
One message reportedly read:
“I need you to call the cops. Look at my location. It’s the pink house.”
Liza said Melissa had previously enabled phone location sharing with her family members.
When she checked the location, she realised Melissa was not at the Airbnb where she had been staying during the birthday trip.
Questions Raised About Marriage Claims
Police stated that Samnath and Watson had reportedly married in December. However, Melissa’s family told local media they were uncertain whether the marriage had legally taken place.
Authorities have not publicly clarified the details surrounding their relationship.
