Watch: High winds cause a semi to topple over on an Oklahoma interstate

On Sunday, strong winds caused chaos across Oklahoma, including a dramatic incident on Interstate 40 near El Reno, where a semi-truck was seen tipping over due to the severe weather conditions. A driver captured the shocking moment on video as the truck’s trailer slowly tilted before the cab also flipped onto its side.

The Incident on Interstate 40

The semi-truck was traveling westbound on a two-lane stretch of Interstate 40 when the wind gusts became too strong for the driver to control. As the truck was in the right lane, it crossed into the left lane before eventually tipping and sliding off the road into the grassy area next to the highway. The video, recorded by a nearby driver, shows the truck’s trailer first tipping, followed by the cab flipping onto its side.

Remarkably, the video footage indicates that no other vehicles were involved in the incident, which could have been much more catastrophic given the severity of the wind.

Wind Gusts Exceeding 60 MPH

KOCO meteorologist Damon Lane reported that wind gusts in El Reno were recorded at more than 60 mph on Sunday, contributing to the incident. The strong winds have been a major factor in the chaos experienced across the state, affecting both traffic and the stability of large vehicles like semis.
