A tragic incident involving a landlord and tenant has shocked a local community after a man was allegedly beaten to death with a baseball bat following an eviction dispute. Authorities say the deadly confrontation happened shortly after the landlord took legal action to remove the tenant from his home. The case is now under investigation as the suspect remains in custody.
Tenant Accused of Killing Landlord After Eviction Dispute
Police say a tenant allegedly killed his landlord with a baseball bat after receiving an eviction notice.
Officers responded to a home on March 9 after receiving a report about an assault. When authorities arrived, they found the victim seriously injured and immediately attempted lifesaving measures.
Despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet publicly released the name of the suspect as the legal process moves forward.
Victim Identified as Vince Palmeri
Friends later identified the victim as Vince Palmeri, who had been renting a room in his home to the suspect.
According to people who knew Palmeri, he had recently tried to evict the tenant from the property. The dispute reportedly grew worse after the suspect failed to move out even after being given notice.
Friends described Palmeri as a generous and caring person who often helped others.
One of his friends, Frederick Spring, said Palmeri was known for supporting those around him and would often treat friends to meals or help them when they needed it.
Eviction Process Began Months Earlier
Court documents show that the conflict between Palmeri and the tenant had been ongoing for months.
On December 30, 2025, Palmeri reportedly sent the tenant a lease termination letter. The notice gave the tenant one month to move out of the home.
When the tenant did not leave the property, Palmeri filed a landlord-tenant lawsuit in February.
During that time, the suspect reportedly contacted the court and claimed that the landlord was acting in retaliation. He asked to be allowed to remain in the home until the end of March.
However, Palmeri proceeded with the eviction process and filed an official eviction notice on March 3.
Witness Describes Violent Attack
A witness, Amanda Heeringa, said she was present when the violent confrontation happened.
Palmeri had reportedly asked her to notify him if the tenant returned to the property. When the suspect arrived, she contacted Palmeri.
According to Heeringa, an argument began between the two men. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly started attacking Palmeri with a baseball bat.
She said the situation escalated quickly and she attempted to stop the suspect by using pepper spray.
Heeringa recalled the moment as extremely sudden and chaotic, saying the attack happened very fast.
She also said that after she sprayed the suspect, he allegedly turned toward her with the bat.
Suspect Reportedly Has Violent History
Court records show that the suspect has previous convictions involving violence.
Authorities took the suspect into custody after the incident and he is currently awaiting arraignment in court.
Investigators continue to review evidence and witness statements as the case moves forward.
Community Mourns the Victim
Friends and people who knew Vince Palmeri have expressed shock and sadness over his death.
Those close to him say he was known for being kind and supportive to others, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking for the community.
Many described him as someone who would always help people in need.
