A disturbing case from Alaska has shocked many people after a man travelled across the country and allegedly carried out a violent attack on his ex-wife and her family. The incident has raised serious concerns about personal conflicts turning dangerous, especially when warning signs are missed. Police are still investigating the case, while more details continue to come out.
Man Travels Thousands of Miles for Attack
Matthew Becker, a 61-year-old man from Arizona, reportedly travelled all the way to Anchorage, Alaska, with the intention of targeting his ex-wife. Authorities say he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer, though the exact timing of the diagnosis is not clear.
Becker was known as a stand-up comedian and also owned a comedy club in Arizona. However, his actions have now put him at the centre of a serious criminal case.
Shooting Attempt Outside Salon
The incident began on Saturday when Becker allegedly waited outside a hair salon owned by his ex-wife. According to police reports, he was sitting in a parked Nissan Altima near her car.
When the woman arrived and tried to enter her salon, she noticed something was wrong with the lock. Around the same time, she saw Becker inside the nearby car, which came as a shock since she did not know he was in Alaska.
As she tried to unlock the door, Becker got out of the car and started moving toward her.
Victim Escapes Narrowly
As Becker approached, the woman began to step back. Police say he then pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at her.
Fearing for her life, she ran toward nearby businesses and hid until Becker left the area. After ensuring her safety, she immediately contacted the police and reported the incident.
Thankfully, she managed to escape without serious injury.
Father Found Dead at Residence
The woman later told police she was worried about her father, Romaine Clark, who lived with her. Officers went to check on him at their home in Airport Heights.
Tragically, Clark, who was 87 years old, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators believe Becker went to the house right after the salon incident and shot him through a glass window.
Clark’s body was discovered by friends who had come to pick him up for a planned outing.
Suspect Found Dead in Woods
After the attacks, Becker fled the area. Police later found him dead the next day in a wooded area in Eagle River.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how he died. His brother told local media that Becker had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, but further details are still unclear.
Background and Investigation
Becker had been living in Arizona since his divorce in 2020. He owned a comedy club named Chuckleheads in Bisbee and had performed stand-up comedy, with some of his videos available online.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, and they are working to understand the full motive behind the attack and the events leading up to his death.
