A disturbing case in Ohio has led to the arrest of a man accused of murdering his wife and attempting to make the crime look like a suicide. Authorities say new evidence and an autopsy report revealed that the woman’s death was not self-inflicted, leading investigators to charge her husband with murder.
Ohio Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing His Wife
Kyle Long, 35, has been charged with one count of murder in the death of his 32-year-old wife, Rachel Long. The arrest was confirmed by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened in October 2025 at the couple’s home on State Route 187 in London, Ohio, a town located about 25 miles southwest of Columbus.
Initially, authorities responded to what was reported as a suicide. However, investigators later determined that the circumstances surrounding Rachel Long’s death were suspicious.
911 Call Claimed the Victim Stabbed Herself
On October 23, 2025, deputies were called to the residence after Kyle Long contacted emergency services.
In a 911 call obtained by local media, he told the dispatcher that his wife had stabbed herself multiple times.
He reportedly said there was blood everywhere and that she had no pulse.
When police arrived, Long claimed he had been in another room watching television while the incident happened.
Husband’s Story Raises Suspicion
According to investigators, Kyle Long told police that his wife went into the bedroom while he remained in another part of the house.
He claimed he heard laughter followed by screams. When he entered the room, he allegedly saw Rachel Long stabbing herself in the face and neck.
Long also reportedly told officers that his wife had been seeking a separation from their marriage.
However, detectives said his statements soon began to change during questioning.
Evidence and Autopsy Contradicted His Claims
Authorities said the husband’s account did not match the physical evidence found during the investigation.
An autopsy revealed that Rachel Long suffered:
- 17 sharp-force injuries
- Defensive wounds on both hands
These injuries suggested that she had tried to protect herself during the attack.
Investigators also noted that Kyle Long said he saw his wife holding the knife only in her right hand, which conflicted with the injuries discovered during the autopsy.
Timeline of 911 Calls Also Questioned
Police also found inconsistencies in the timing of the 911 calls.
According to investigators:
- Kyle Long initially called 911 but hung up
- He called again about four minutes later
Authorities believe this sequence did not match the timeline he originally provided to police.
Madison County Sheriff John Swaney said investigators considered the case suspicious from the beginning, especially because Kyle Long was the only person inside the home at the time.
Victim Was Planning a New Life
Investigators also discovered evidence suggesting Rachel Long was looking forward to the future.
Just before the attack, she had been texting a friend about what outfit she planned to wear to an upcoming concert.
Police said the messages showed no signs that she was upset or considering suicide.
Friends later confirmed that Rachel Long had been planning to leave her marriage and was optimistic about starting a new chapter in her life.
Friends Reject Suicide Theory
One of Rachel Long’s childhood friends spoke to local media, saying suicide did not match the woman’s personality.
The friend said Rachel was excited about becoming an independent single mother and building new friendships.
According to those who knew her, she was hopeful about the future and looking forward to new opportunities.
Beloved Business Owner Remembered by Community
Rachel Long was well known in the London, Ohio community.
She owned and operated Pawfect Pups Grooming, a local pet grooming business in downtown London.
Friends say she was known for her kindness, especially toward animals and the people who trusted her with their pets.
Many residents say she made a strong positive impact in the community.
Suspect Arrested After Death Ruled a Homicide
The case took a major turn when the Madison County coroner officially changed Rachel Long’s manner of death from suicide to homicide.
Shortly after that decision, Kyle Long was arrested during a traffic stop.
He appeared in court for his arraignment on Friday, where a judge set his bond at $1.5 million.
He is currently being held at the Tri-County Regional Jail while the case moves forward.
Kyle Long has maintained his innocence in the case.
