It has been three weeks since Sean Six, a Tulsa man, was shot and killed at a house in south Tulsa. The case has generated numerous theories on social media, but Tulsa Police detectives say their investigation continues to point to self-defense.
Update on the Investigation
Detectives from the Tulsa Police Department’s Homicide Unit spoke with News On 6 to provide an update on the investigation. Despite the widespread speculation online, they emphasized that their findings have been grounded in evidence, not social media posts. According to Lieutenant Brandon Watkins, the evidence at the scene and their investigation have supported the self-defense theory.
“We have a lot more information than the public does. A lot of what’s going on out there is pure speculation,” Watkins said.
The detectives are still in the process of interviewing additional witnesses before turning the case over to the District Attorney’s Office (DA) for final review.
Evidence and Self-Defense
Watkins stressed that the investigation into Six’s death is being taken very seriously. Despite the public’s focus on self-defense, detectives look at such claims carefully, just as they would with any other case. “Somebody has lost their life. That demands to be taken seriously, and we leave no stone unturned,” Watkins said.
The case has sparked much attention, but the Tulsa Police remain focused on gathering facts. “We don’t just walk in and take somebody’s word for it that this is self-defense,” Watkins explained. “A big chunk of our homicides, people try to claim self-defense. That doesn’t necessarily mean we believe it.”
What Happened the Night of Sean Six’s Death?
Police say that Six had previously lived in the house with his girlfriend but had moved out before the incident occurred. The night of his death, Six returned to the house after making threats. Police say he attempted to break in through a window, kicked down the door, and confronted the man inside the house.
According to police, the man then shot and killed Six after he passed his girlfriend and went to a back bedroom where the confrontation took place.
Family’s Reaction
Six’s family has expressed frustration with the investigation, claiming that Six did not move out of the house. They believe that his girlfriend and the man who fired the shots lured him back to the house. The family has disputed the self-defense claim, asserting that Six’s death was the result of a setup.
What’s Next for the Case?
Lieutenant Watkins stated that the investigation is still ongoing, and the case will be handed over to the District Attorney in about a week. He acknowledged that the process has taken longer than usual, partly due to the influx of information and tips from the public, but assured that the police are diligently reviewing all available evidence.
“We’re literally looking at everything that is out there and everything that is available,” Watkins said. “Again, there’s a lot of information that the public doesn’t have on this particular case, and there’s also a lot of speculation out there that is just wrong.”
