A neighborhood in Reseda, Los Angeles, is allegedly being “terrorized” by a local resident who has been causing significant distress to his neighbors for years.
The man, identified only as Greg, is accused of repeatedly exposing himself from a window of his home on Garden Grove Avenue, yelling obscenities and death threats, and disrupting the community’s peace.
Despite over 150 complaints to police and city officials, the situation remains unresolved, leaving residents feeling helpless and trapped in their own homes.
Neighbors Speak Out About Ongoing Disturbance
The disturbance has reportedly been ongoing for years, with residents claiming that Greg’s behavior often starts in the afternoon and continues into the early hours of the morning.
Neighbor Ron Veto described the situation as a constant nightmare, saying, “The guy goes off, sometimes 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon until 2-3 o’clock in the morning. Everybody in the neighborhood is terrorized by this guy.”
Other residents, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, told NBC Los Angeles that they feel like prisoners in their own homes.
They are afraid to take out the trash or walk their dogs because of the threat of encountering Greg. One resident explained, “You should be able to open your door and not have to listen to the rantings of a person who needs some serious psychological help.”
Allegations of Renting Backyard Sheds
In addition to his disruptive behavior, Greg is also accused of renting out several of his backyard sheds to transients. Neighbors claim that these arrangements add to the safety concerns, as they believe the transients may contribute to the instability of the area.
Calls to Police and City Officials Go Unanswered
Despite numerous complaints over the years—reports suggest between 150 and 200 calls to local law enforcement and city officials—residents claim that they have seen little action taken.
Police have reportedly told residents that the situation is merely a “neighborhood dispute,” leaving them frustrated and fearful for their safety.
Veto said, “We’re told that it’s a neighborhood dispute. It is hell. It’s absolutely hell.” Neighbor Joseph Peter also voiced his anger, saying, “We’re really upset and scared from this guy, and they don’t do nothing.”
Legal and Code Violations
Recent documents obtained by KTLA show that Greg’s property has been cited for multiple alleged code violations in the past year. These include complaints about improper zoning, unauthorized alterations to the interior of the building, and non-compliant electrical wiring.
However, despite these violations, Greg entered a plea of not guilty to the complaints, and the situation remains unresolved.
Efforts to Seek Help from Local Officials
Fed up with the lack of progress, the affected residents have turned to Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman, whose district encompasses Reseda, for assistance. In a statement, Raman assured residents that her office is looking into the situation and will take the concerns seriously.
“Our office has just been made aware of the situation, and we are actively looking into it. Every resident deserves to feel safe in their neighborhood, and we take these concerns seriously,” Raman’s statement read. “It is also clear that the individual at the center of this situation is in need of serious support and services.”
Raman further stated, “We will be in contact with the relevant city departments to ensure this matter receives the attention it warrants, and we will be reaching out to the residents involved and working to identify the appropriate next steps.”
The ongoing situation in this Reseda neighborhood highlights the challenges of addressing persistent disturbances and the need for coordinated efforts between local authorities and mental health services.
While some action has been promised by city officials, the residents remain in limbo, hoping that their long-standing complaints will finally be addressed to restore peace to their community.
