An Alabama man has been charged in connection with the death of his son’s girlfriend after authorities say a shooting inside his home ended in tragedy.
Alabama Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting Case
Jeffrey Scott Towers, 54, of Trussville, was arrested on May 11 after investigators obtained a warrant charging him with manslaughter.
According to the Trussville Police Department, the charge comes after a months-long investigation into a fatal shooting that happened earlier this year.
Authorities later released Towers on a $30,000 bond as he awaits his next court appearance.
22-Year-Old Woman Died After Shooting
Police say the incident happened on March 7, 2026, at around 9:30 p.m.
Officers responded to a report of a person suffering from a gunshot wound at a residence in Trussville.
When officers arrived, they found the victim, identified as Whitney Robeson, 22, suffering from a serious gunshot injury.
Robeson, originally from Virginia, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Coroner Called Shooting Accidental
According to reports, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office ruled the shooting accidental.
However, after an extensive investigation by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division, authorities decided criminal charges were appropriate and obtained an arrest warrant for Towers.
Police have not yet publicly released full details explaining what led to the manslaughter charge.
Investigators say the case remains active.
Defense Attorneys Say Towers Is Innocent
As Towers prepares for court, his attorneys say he did nothing criminal.
In a statement, his legal team described the shooting as a tragic event but insisted their client is not guilty.
They also said Towers has:
- No prior criminal history
- A strong reputation in the community
- Lived as a productive citizen throughout his life
His attorneys say the facts will ultimately clear him.
Family Mourns Loss of Young Woman
While the legal process continues, Robeson’s family and friends are mourning the sudden loss of a young woman whose future was just beginning.
According to her obituary, Whitney was remembered as a loving daughter, sister, and friend whose life touched many people.
A Promising Career Cut Short
After graduating from Auburn University in 2025 with a degree in interior design, Robeson had recently started her dream career.
She was working as a trade consultant and had long hoped to build a successful future in design.
Family members described her as independent, bright, and someone who left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Investigation Still Ongoing
Police say the investigation remains open as prosecutors continue building their case.
The tragedy has drawn significant attention in Alabama, with many following the legal proceedings to learn what exactly happened on the night Whitney Robeson lost her life.
