A late-night incident at the University of Oklahoma has led to an ongoing police investigation after damage was reported at a campus landmark.
Fountain damaged at OU Engineering Quad
The University of Oklahoma Police Department confirmed it is investigating damage to the Engineering Quad fountain on campus in Norman. Officers responded to the scene around 1:07 a.m. on Friday after receiving a report about the incident.
Individuals involved identified
According to public information officer Chase Brooks, the fountain was damaged by people who were present at the location. He confirmed that at least one individual involved has already been identified. However, officials have not shared further details about the person due to the possibility of legal action.
Investigation still ongoing
Authorities are still trying to determine whether the incident was intentional or accidental. Brooks explained that investigators are currently reviewing the situation to decide whether it will be treated as a criminal case or an accident. A few people were reportedly present at the time of the incident.
Damage and injuries reported
Photos taken later showed significant damage to the fountain, with its top and basins knocked over and broken away from the main structure. Officials also confirmed that a dark red substance found near the base of the fountain was blood, indicating that someone may have been injured during the incident.
Emergency services responded
Emergency responders, including EMS and the Norman Fire Department, were called to the scene to handle the situation. While details about any injuries have not been officially released, their presence suggests that medical assistance was required.
Cleanup completed, details still unclear
By Monday morning, the damaged parts of the fountain had been removed and the area cleared. However, officials have not yet provided information about repair costs or when the fountain will be restored. Attempts to get more details from university departments have not yet received a response.
The incident at the Engineering Quad highlights ongoing concerns about campus safety and property damage. With one individual already identified and investigations continuing, authorities are working to determine exactly what happened and whether any legal action will follow. More updates are expected as officials complete their review of the case.
