A suspected member of the MS-13 gang who was wanted for the killing of a pastor in El Salvador has been arrested in the United States, federal authorities confirmed. The suspect was taken into custody in Connecticut and is now facing possible deportation to El Salvador, where he is wanted on homicide charges.
Suspected MS-13 Member Arrested in Connecticut
Federal agents arrested Danny Antonio Granados-Garcia, a Salvadoran national, in Waterbury, Connecticut on Tuesday.
According to the FBI, Granados-Garcia was wanted in El Salvador for aggravated homicide related to the killing of a pastor.
Authorities said he had an active arrest warrant issued in El Salvador and was also the subject of an Interpol Blue Notice, which alerts law enforcement agencies worldwide about a person of interest in a criminal investigation.
The FBI’s New Haven office confirmed that agents worked with international partners to locate and identify the suspect.
Allegations of Pastor’s Murder
Investigators say Granados-Garcia is suspected of killing a pastor in El Salvador.
Officials noted that the victim was reportedly related to an El Salvadoran police officer.
Details about when the killing occurred have not yet been publicly released, but authorities said the case prompted an international search for the suspect.
The Interpol notice and arrest warrant helped law enforcement track him after he was believed to be in the United States.
FBI Worked With International Authorities
The arrest was carried out with assistance from the FBI’s Legal Attaché office in San Salvador, which coordinates investigations with foreign law enforcement agencies.
Through this cooperation, investigators were able to confirm Granados-Garcia’s identity and his status as a fugitive.
International law enforcement cooperation often plays a major role in locating suspects who cross national borders to avoid prosecution.
Suspect Turned Over to Immigration Authorities
After his arrest, Granados-Garcia was handed over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Officials said ICE will handle the next steps, which could include deportation proceedings to return him to El Salvador.
Authorities stated that the goal is to ensure the suspect faces justice in the country where the crime allegedly occurred.
Law Enforcement Focus on MS-13
Federal officials highlighted the case as part of a broader effort to combat violent gang activity linked to MS-13.
MS-13, also known as Mara Salvatrucha, is an international criminal organization that originated in Central America and has been connected to violent crimes in several countries.
An FBI official stated that members of the gang are known for violence and intimidation, and law enforcement agencies remain committed to tracking down suspects involved in serious crimes.
Officials emphasized that cooperation between U.S. and international law enforcement agencies is essential to locating and arresting fugitives linked to transnational criminal groups.
