A mother of three was tragically beaten to death in what authorities are describing as an apparent murder-suicide. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of March 13, with police discovering two deceased individuals at the scene.
Discovery of the Victims
Around 3 a.m. on March 13, Connecticut State Police received a report of a disturbance at a home. When officers arrived at the residence, they forced entry and found two individuals dead inside. Diana Enamorado Perdomo, 44, and Gregorio Calihua-Mantiel, 44, were both found deceased. Authorities have labeled Perdomo’s death a homicide and Calihua-Mantiel’s death a suicide.
Cause of Death
The Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Perdomo died from blunt force trauma to the head, while Calihua-Mantiel’s cause of death was ruled as ligature compression on his neck. Honduran news outlets report that Perdomo’s family alleges she was beaten with a bat.
Perdomo’s Family and Background
Perdomo, originally from Honduras, was a mother of three and grandmother of four. She and Calihua-Mantiel lived next door to the restaurant where they both worked. Perdomo’s niece, Rubi Elizabeth Sagastume-Enamorado, spoke to the New Haven Register about the deteriorating relationship between Perdomo and Calihua-Mantiel in recent times.
GoFundMe for Funeral Expenses
A GoFundMe campaign created by Sagastume-Enamorado to help bring Perdomo’s body back to Honduras for burial describes Perdomo as “an incredible mother, a loving grandmother, and a woman who taught me the meaning of hard work, kindness, and what it means to be a good human being.”
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation into the deaths is ongoing as authorities continue to gather more information surrounding the circumstances of the murder-suicide.
