A shocking incident in Florida has left a community in disbelief after a man was suddenly shot dead while casually talking to his mother on the phone. What seemed like a normal evening quickly turned into a tragic crime with disturbing details.
Man Shot While Speaking to His Mother
Police say Jeffrey Blevins, 56, was standing outside his apartment, smoking a cigarette and talking to his mother on the phone when the incident happened.
According to authorities, his mother suddenly heard a noise, as if he had fallen. When she tried to speak to him again, there was no response. Worried, she quickly contacted his sister and asked her to check on him.
Body Found Near Apartment Complex
The incident took place at the Fountain Place Apartments in Bartow. Police received a call around 11:20 p.m. about a person lying outside.
When officers arrived, they found Blevins’ body near the apartment complex’s fitness centre. Officials said it was clear he had died due to a violent attack.
He had been shot in the forehead and is believed to have died instantly.
Suspect Identified as Neighbour
Investigators later identified the suspect as David Richard Morris, 48, who lived in an upstairs apartment.
Police say Morris has been charged with second-degree murder and illegally firing a weapon in a residential area. He is currently being held without bond.
