A shocking case from Ohio has finally been solved after more than 25 years, revealing a disturbing story involving a father’s remains and alleged financial fraud. What began as a mysterious discovery by children in 1998 has now led to answers, thanks to modern DNA technology.
How the Case Began
In February 1998, a group of children in Dover Township made a horrifying discovery. They found a suitcase lying along a quiet road.
Inside the suitcase were human body parts.
A few days later, another suitcase was found about 15 miles away, also containing body parts. Police confirmed that both sets of remains belonged to the same person, but at that time, they could not identify the victim.

- One day, he returned home and found his father dead

Why He Cannot Be Charged for the Body
Despite the disturbing nature of the case, authorities cannot charge Drotleff for crimes related to the body. This is because the statute of limitations under Ohio law has expired.
Officials also stated that there is no clear evidence of murder in this case.
Federal Charges for Financial Fraud
Although he cannot be charged for the handling of the body, Drotleff is now facing serious federal charges for financial crimes.
Prosecutors allege that he continued to collect his father’s benefits for years after his death.
The charges include:
- Stealing Social Security benefits worth around $111,485
- Taking pension money of about $135,040 from General Electric
In total, he is accused of illegally taking nearly $250,000 over 15 years.
