A shocking and heartbreaking incident in Arkansas has left a community in grief after a young woman lost her life while simply doing her job. What police are calling a “random act of violence” took place inside a Walmart store, raising serious concerns about public safety.
Walmart Employee Killed During Night Shift
Jordanne Drinkwater, 32, was working her regular shift at a Walmart store in Conway, Arkansas, when she was brutally attacked. The incident happened around 11 p.m. on March 31 at a store located on Skyline Drive, about 30 miles from Little Rock.
She was stabbed inside the store, and despite emergency response efforts, she was declared dead at the scene.
Suspect Arrested at the Scene
Police quickly responded to reports of a stabbing in progress. When officers arrived, they found the suspect, Zeddrick Ross, 37, still holding a knife.
According to officials:
- One officer fired a shot but missed
- Another officer used a Taser to control Ross
- He was then taken into custody without further harm
Ross has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held in Faulkner County Jail with a bond set at $1 million.
Disturbing Claim Behind the Attack
The details shared in the arrest report are deeply disturbing. Police say Ross believed he was being followed by a demon.
Before the attack:
- He allegedly stole a large knife from a nearby Walgreens
- He then took a machete from inside Walmart
Ross described the “demon” as a woman with specific features. When he saw Drinkwater, he reportedly believed she was that figure.

According to police, Ross attacked Drinkwater thinking she was the demon he imagined. He stabbed her in the shoulder and neck.
After the attack, he realised his mistake.
Police stated that Ross understood that the person he had attacked was not the “demon,” but an innocent Walmart employee who was simply doing her job.
Police Call It a Random Act
Authorities have said there is no known connection between Ross and Drinkwater. Police spokesperson Daniel Hogan mentioned that, based on current information, the attack appears to be random.
Investigators are still working to confirm if there were any other motives involved.
