A shocking incident in Florida has led to the arrest of a 56-year-old man after he allegedly shot his roommate during a heated argument fueled by jealousy. Authorities say the accused, identified as Ramon Lauzurique-Gonzalez, believed his ex-wife ended their marriage because she was attracted to the victim, leading to a violent confrontation inside their shared home.
Florida Man Arrested in Attempted Murder Case
According to police records, Ramon Lauzurique-Gonzalez was taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with second-degree attempted murder with a firearm. The incident happened at a residence on Southwest 10th Street, where the accused had been living with his ex-wife, the victim, and the victim’s wife for nearly three months.
Investigators revealed that the victim’s wife and the defendant’s ex-wife are sisters, making the living arrangement even more complicated.
Jealousy Reportedly Sparked the Violence
Police said tensions rose around 4:30 p.m. when Lauzurique-Gonzalez started arguing with his ex-wife about the reason behind their divorce.
According to the affidavit, the accused believed his former wife left him because she was physically attracted to his roommate. During the argument, he allegedly walked out of the house while saying in Spanish that he was going to “solve a problem.”
A short time later, he returned to the residence.
Victim Shot Inside Shared Home
Witnesses told detectives that the victim had just returned home from work while his wife was in the kitchen preparing food.
Moments later, Lauzurique-Gonzalez allegedly came out of his bedroom holding a black handgun. Witnesses said he pointed the weapon at the victim and threatened to kill him before firing one round.
The bullet struck the victim in the right shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground.
Victim Fought Back and Disarmed Suspect
Despite being injured, the victim managed to stand up and fight back. Police say he attempted to take the gun away from the suspect.
During the struggle, Lauzurique-Gonzalez allegedly hit the victim on the left side of the head with the firearm. Both women in the home reportedly tried to stop the attack.
The victim eventually managed to wrestle the handgun away and threw it toward the front door to keep it away from the suspect before escaping.
Police Quickly Located the Suspect
Officers later recovered the handgun near the entrance of the apartment.
Police found Lauzurique-Gonzalez just a few blocks away near Southwest 34th Avenue and Southwest 7th Street.
Authorities said the victim and both witnesses later identified the suspect through photographic lineups.
Suspect Held Without Bond
After his arrest, Lauzurique-Gonzalez reportedly agreed to speak with detectives after waiving his constitutional rights, though details of that conversation have not been released publicly.
He is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond. Officials have not yet confirmed his next court appearance.
This case highlights how personal disputes and jealousy can quickly turn into serious violence, leaving lasting consequences for everyone involved. Investigators continue to review evidence as the legal process moves forward.
