A tragic case from Tennessee has shocked the community after a man allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend and another man she was with, just days after being accused of domestic violence. The incident highlights serious concerns about safety and the dangers of unresolved abusive relationships.
Double Murder Case in Tennessee
A 41-year-old man, Verdell Pegues, has been arrested and charged with multiple serious offences, including two counts of first-degree murder. The victims have been identified as Lashaunda Boyd, 36, and Jimmy Ford, 37.
The incident took place in Memphis, where the accused allegedly opened fire on both victims in broad daylight.
Previous Domestic Violence Complaints
Just days before the shooting, Boyd had reportedly filed police complaints against Pegues. She accused him of physically assaulting her and threatening her life.
According to reports:
- On March 15, he allegedly hit her several times in the face
- On March 17, he reportedly pointed a gun at her
- He allegedly threatened her, saying she would not be with anyone else
These incidents show that there were clear warning signs before the tragic event.
Day of the Shooting
On March 22, around noon, Boyd and Ford were walking together near East Dison Avenue and Carnegie Street in Memphis.
Police say surveillance footage captured the attack. The suspect approached the victims and suddenly started shooting at them while they were on the sidewalk.
Attack Caught on Camera
According to investigators, both victims fell to the ground after being shot. The suspect then allegedly stood over them and fired additional shots.
When police reached the spot, they found both victims lying on the ground with gunshot injuries. Evidence, including 9 mm bullet casings, was recovered from the scene.
Boyd died at the location, while Ford was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries.
Witnesses Help Identify Suspect
Witnesses played an important role in the investigation. Several people told police that the attacker was known as “RaRa,” who was Boyd’s ex-boyfriend.
One witness claimed to have seen the shooting and later confirmed that Pegues was the person referred to as “RaRa.”
Arrest and Charges
Pegues was taken into custody and later appeared in court through a video hearing. He is currently facing several charges, including:
- First-degree murder (two counts)
- Reckless endangerment with a weapon
- Use of a firearm to commit a felony
- Being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm
He is being held in jail on a bond of $1 million.
Serious Concerns Over Domestic Violence
This case once again highlights the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of taking threats seriously. Despite prior complaints and alleged threats, the situation escalated into a deadly attack.
Such incidents show the need for stronger protection measures and quick action in cases involving abuse and threats.
