A dentist in the United States is fighting to get his license back after serious allegations about poor dental treatment and unsafe practices. The case has raised concerns about patient safety, professional standards, and how quickly authorities should act in such situations.
Dentist Challenges License Suspension
Dr. Justin Scott, who runs Pure Dental Health in Atlanta, has filed a legal petition asking the court to restore his license. He claims that the decision made by the Georgia Board of Dentistry was unfair and rushed.
According to his lawyer, the board already knew about the complaints months earlier. They had even inspected his clinics in September 2025 and did not take any immediate action at that time. The lawyer argues that waiting six months and then calling it an “emergency” does not make sense.
Dr. Scott also says that the issues raised are normal disagreements in dental practice that should be handled through regular review, not by suspending his license.
Serious Allegations from Patients
The Board of Dentistry has accused Dr. Scott of providing poor orthodontic treatment to several patients. Some of the cases mentioned are quite serious:
- A patient reportedly developed bone necrosis after receiving dental implants that were poorly placed. She had taken a loan of $20,000 for the treatment.
- Another patient experienced severe root damage and is now at risk of losing her front teeth.
- One case involved a patient whose dental implants had to be completely removed by another dentist.
- Another patient needed corrective treatment due to earlier poor work.
These cases suggest that the treatments may have caused long-term damage instead of improvement.
Hygiene and Safety Concerns
Apart from treatment issues, inspections at Dr. Scott’s clinics found major problems related to cleanliness and safety. The board reported:
- Improper sterilisation of dental tools
- Open instrument packs stored in drawers
- Expired medicines and supplies in treatment areas
- Poor storage of equipment, including wet instruments left out
- Missing maintenance and sterilisation records
Such issues can increase the risk of infections and are taken very seriously in healthcare settings.
Impact on Patients and Practice
Several patients have shared their experiences publicly, describing pain, emotional distress, and financial loss. Some said they were left without proper teeth and had to seek further treatment elsewhere.
At the same time, Dr. Scott claims that the suspension has badly affected his life and business:
- His clinic has been shut down
- Around 12 employees may lose their jobs
- Hundreds of patients have lost access to ongoing treatment
- His dental practice has lost significant market value
He believes the decision has caused permanent damage to his reputation and career.
Legal Battle Ahead
The case is now in court, where Dr. Scott is seeking a temporary order to stop the suspension and allow him to continue practicing. The court will likely examine whether the board acted correctly and whether there was an actual emergency that justified immediate suspension.
This situation highlights the balance between protecting patients and ensuring fairness for medical professionals.
