A terrifying incident in Oregon has left a young mother and her family deeply shaken after a stranger allegedly entered their home and tried to attack her while she was with her two small children. The shocking event highlights serious concerns about home safety and public security, especially when crimes happen in broad daylight.
Stranger Enters Home and Targets Mother
Police say a 43-year-old man, identified as Judson Defir, walked into a house in Portland’s South Tabor area without permission. At the time, a mother was inside with her 10-month-old baby and her 3-year-old child, while her husband was outside doing yard work.
According to reports, the man entered the home and came upstairs, making the situation even more frightening for the family.
Man Pretends to Be Husband
The mother told police she initially thought the person entering the house was her husband. She heard footsteps and then a voice saying, “Honey, I’m here.”
However, she quickly realised something was wrong when she saw an unknown man standing at the bedroom door. This moment turned into a nightmare within seconds.
Alleged Attack While Holding Baby
Police say the man grabbed the woman while she was holding her baby and forced her into another room. He allegedly pushed her onto the bed and tried to assault her.
The situation was extremely dangerous, as the baby was still in her arms and under pressure during the struggle.
Mother Acts Quickly to Protect Children
In a brave move, the woman asked the attacker to let her place the baby safely in a crib to avoid hurting the child. The man reportedly agreed.
After securing the baby, she returned to her 3-year-old and locked themselves inside another room. She even used a bookshelf to block the door, trying to stop the attacker from entering.
When the man tried to break in, she went to the balcony and shouted loudly for help.
Husband and Locals Rush to Help
Her cries alerted her husband, who was outside, along with several people from a nearby church. They quickly rushed to the house to help.
By the time they arrived, the suspect had already run away from the scene.
Police Arrest Suspect Nearby
Police were called immediately and found the woman extremely distressed. She was crying and repeatedly telling officers that the man had tried to assault her.
Officers searched the area and found the suspect nearby. He was reportedly being followed by around 15 people who had recognised him and were pointing him out.
He was then taken into custody without further incident.
Multiple Alleged Attacks the Same Day
Authorities believe the suspect may have targeted several women on the same day. Just minutes before entering the house, he allegedly behaved inappropriately with a woman inside a nearby church.
He is also suspected of attacking two other women on the street.
Suspect’s Statements and Background
During police questioning, the suspect claimed he had used drugs earlier that day. He also gave a different version of events, saying the woman screamed and dropped her baby while he tried to leave.
Police have not found evidence to support his claims.
Reports also revealed that he had a prior arrest in 2024 for inappropriate behaviour in public.
Charges and Legal Action
Judson Defir has been charged with serious crimes, including attempted rape, kidnapping, and burglary. He is also facing a probation violation linked to a previous case.
He is currently in custody without bail, and a court hearing is scheduled soon.
