A disturbing incident from Florida has shocked many, where a simple argument quickly turned deadly. What began as an attempt to stop a dog attack ended in a fatal shooting, raising serious concerns about violence and decision-making in tense situations.
What Happened in the Incident
Matthew Lee Pasco, aged 43, has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting and killing Shawn Cyriacks. The incident took place in Leesburg, a suburb near Orlando.
According to police reports, deputies were called to a homeless camp area after receiving a distress call about a woman being attacked by multiple dogs. While the emergency call was ongoing, the situation suddenly became more serious when a gunshot was heard in the background.
Emergency Call Took a Sudden Turn
During the 911 call, the dispatcher was gathering details about the dog attack when chaos broke out.
The caller suddenly reported that someone had been shot. Police rushed to the scene and found Shawn Cyriacks with a gunshot wound to the chest. Sadly, he was later declared dead.
How the Argument Escalated
Investigators spoke to a woman who was staying in Pasco’s tent at the time. She said they woke up after hearing that a friend was being attacked by dogs.
Pasco reportedly went outside to check the situation and returned saying he planned to kill the dogs. This led to a heated argument between him and Cyriacks, who owned the dogs.
According to police:
- Cyriacks tried to stop Pasco from harming the dogs
- Pasco allegedly threatened that anyone who got in his way could also be harmed
- The argument quickly became intense and emotional
The Fatal Moment
As per the police affidavit, Cyriacks confronted Pasco and told him not to shoot the dogs. In response, Pasco allegedly threatened him directly.
Moments later, Pasco reportedly shot Cyriacks in the chest. Authorities say the victim did not threaten Pasco at any point during the argument.
Investigators believe the shooting was intentional and happened during a heated verbal exchange.
After the Shooting
After firing the shot, Pasco fled from the scene. However, law enforcement officers later tracked him down and arrested him.
He is currently being held in custody at the local jail without bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for May 18.
Legal Charges and Situation
Pasco now faces a serious charge of first-degree murder. This means prosecutors believe the act was planned or done with clear intent.
If convicted, he could face severe punishment under U.S. law.
