A tragic incident in Oklahoma has turned what was meant to be a joyful celebration into a heartbreaking event. A bachelor party ended in disaster after a young groom allegedly shot and killed his own friend, raising serious questions about safety and judgment.
Bachelor Party Turns Tragic
The incident took place in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, at a rented Airbnb property. A group of friends had gathered there to celebrate a bachelor party, but the night took a shocking turn.
Police received a call just before 1 a.m. on April 4 about a shooting at a residence on Rockhill Circle. Officers rushed to the scene to investigate.
Victim Found with Gunshot Wound
When authorities arrived, they found 21-year-old Braden Uhlmann seriously injured with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency responders quickly took him to a nearby hospital. Sadly, despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries.
Accused Identified and Arrested
The accused, 22-year-old Nolan Dain Engel, was present at the scene when police arrived. He was taken into custody and later charged with:
- Second-degree murder
Investigators said Engel made statements at the scene admitting that he was the one who fired the shot.
What Led to the Shooting
According to police reports, Engel explained what happened before the shooting. He claimed that:
- He heard knocking sounds outside the cabin
- He saw what he believed was a shadow near the front door
- Thinking someone was outside, he fired a single shot
After firing, Engel and another friend went outside and found Uhlmann lying on the porch with a gunshot wound.
Unclear Circumstances
At this stage, it is still unclear why Uhlmann was outside or whether he was carrying anything that could have caused confusion.
Authorities have not confirmed:
- Whether the victim was armed
- Why he was near the door at that moment
The case is still under investigation, and more details may come out later.
Legal Status and Court Update
After his arrest, Engel was booked into the McCurtain County Jail. However, he was later released after posting a bond of $250,000.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on April 28 as the legal process continues.
Investigation Ongoing
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is handling the case with support from local law enforcement agencies.
Officials are carefully reviewing:
- Evidence from the scene
- Statements from witnesses
- The sequence of events leading to the shooting
Their goal is to understand exactly what happened and whether the shooting could have been avoided.
