A court in Mexico has handed down a strong punishment in a brutal kidnapping and murder case that shocked the city of Juarez. Two men have been sentenced to 100 years in prison each after being found guilty of killing three adults and a minor in 2024. Authorities say the crime was linked to organized crime groups operating in the region.
Two Men Receive 100-Year Prison Sentences
A judge sentenced two men to 100 years in prison each for their role in a kidnapping and murder case that took place in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
The convicted men were identified as Angel Alberto M., known by the nickname “El Diablo” (The Devil), and Brandon Ivan C.B., also called “El Cuate” (The Twin).
Prosecutors said both men led a group that carried out a violent home invasion that ended with four people being killed. The long prison sentences reflect the seriousness of the crime and the impact it had on the local community.
Home Invasion in Horizontes del Sur
According to investigators, the crime happened on February 1, 2024, in the Horizontes del Sur neighborhood of Ciudad Juarez.
Authorities say the two men led a group that forced their way into a home where seven people were present. The suspects reportedly held the occupants at gunpoint during the attack.
Prosecutors alleged that the suspects ordered the victims to be tied up. During the incident, three adults and a minor were strangled to death.
Officials believe the attack was carried out on the orders of a jailed leader from the Mexicles gang, a street-level criminal organization that operates in the region.
Three Victims Managed to Escape
While four people were killed during the attack, three others managed to survive.
Two women and a teenager were reportedly taken to a different location after the home invasion. At some point, they were able to escape and contact the police.
Their escape helped authorities begin the investigation that eventually led to the arrest and conviction of the two suspects.
Crime Linked to Organized Criminal Groups
Ciudad Juarez has long struggled with violence linked to organized crime groups. The city sits near the U.S.-Mexico border and has often been affected by conflicts between rival criminal organizations.
Authorities say several groups operate in the region, including:
- La Linea cartel
- The Sinaloa cartel
- Street-level gangs such as Mexicles
These groups are often involved in drug trafficking, violent crimes, and territorial disputes.
One of the Harshest Sentences in Juarez
The 100-year prison sentences handed to the two men are among the harshest punishments issued in recent years in Ciudad Juarez.
Officials hope the ruling sends a strong message against violent crime and organized criminal activity in the region.
Local authorities continue to work on reducing violence and strengthening law enforcement efforts in the border city.
