Nicholas Caban, 23, and Jacob Firestone, 22, have been convicted for the 2022 killing of Matthew Ascaridis, a 45-year-old father.
The crime took place near Highland Park, specifically at Fort Sheridan Beach. According to authorities, the victim was attacked late at night after stepping out of his home to check on loud noises.
Events Leading to the Attack
On the night of the incident, Ascaridis and his wife were preparing for a trip when they heard disturbing noises nearby. Concerned, he contacted police twice but was told there could be a delay in response.
Around 1 a.m., he decided to go himself to the nearby beach to see what was happening. There, he reportedly encountered Caban and Firestone.
This meeting quickly turned into a violent confrontation.
