Jeffrey Scott Towers Charged With Manslaughter
54-year-old Jeffrey Scott Towers is now facing a manslaughter charge in connection with the death of 22-year-old Whitney Robeson.
Authorities say Towers was officially charged on May 11, more than two months after the fatal shooting that took place in March.
According to court records, investigators allege Towers “recklessly caused” Robeson’s death by shooting her with a firearm.
Police Responded to Shooting at Trussville Home
According to the Trussville Police Department, officers were called to a home in Trussville around 9:30 p.m. on March 7 after reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found Whitney Robeson suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Initial Reports Suggested Shooting Was Accidental
Early reports indicated that the shooting may have been accidental.
The Jefferson County Coroner reportedly initially ruled the death as accidental, though investigators have not publicly released specific details about what happened inside the home that night.
Despite that early finding, police later announced that Jeffrey Scott Towers would be held criminally responsible.
Whitney Robeson Was Auburn University Graduate
Whitney Robeson was originally from Virginia and had recently reached an important milestone in her life.
She had graduated from Auburn University in May 2025 with a degree in interior design.
Family and friends described her as a young woman with a bright future ahead.
At the time of her death, she was reportedly dating Towers’ son.
Towers Released After Posting Bond
After his arrest, Jeffrey Scott Towers was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
Court records show he later posted a $30,000 bond and was released.
Authorities have not yet announced his next court date.
Defense Attorney Says Towers Is Innocent
Towers’ attorney, Johnny Amari, said the incident was a tragic event but insisted his client is not guilty.
According to his legal team, Towers has:
- No criminal history
- A record as a productive citizen
- Strong community ties
His attorney said the facts will ultimately show that Towers should not be convicted.
Investigation Continues
As investigators continue reviewing evidence, many questions remain unanswered about what led to Whitney Robeson’s death.
The case has drawn significant attention in Alabama, especially because of the victim’s young age and promising future.
As the legal process moves forward, both families now await the next chapter in a case that has turned a tragic shooting into a criminal prosecution.
