A man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his mother while she was sleeping in their home in Arizona.
George Randall, 25, faces multiple serious charges, including attempted first-degree homicide and aggravated assault, authorities say.
The incident occurred early on Friday, May 15, at a residence on the 2700 block of N. Evergreen Street in Chandler, Arizona.
What Happened
Chandler Police officers responded at approximately 4:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a family member being stabbed. The victim was transported to a local hospital for emergency care.
During Randall’s initial court appearance, prosecutors said he allegedly stabbed his mother in the side of the neck while she slept on the couch. The victim reportedly lost consciousness due to blood loss but has since stabilized after surgery and is recovering.
Alleged Motive and Mental Health Concerns
According to prosecutors, Randall admitted to law enforcement that he had been thinking about killing his mother for weeks. He allegedly chose the location to cause maximum harm.
“This appears to be a completely unprovoked attack,” the prosecutor said. “We are concerned that he is a very dangerous person and could possibly harm other people.”
Court Proceedings
The judge granted a $1 million cash-only bond due to concerns about Randall’s mental state and potential risk to the public. He is expected to appear in court again later this month.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
