A baby shower in Southern California turned into a frightening scene when gunfire broke out, leaving several young people injured. Police say the violence was connected to gang activity and targeted individuals attending the gathering. Authorities quickly launched an investigation and have since arrested four suspects believed to be involved in the shooting.
Gang-Related Shooting at Baby Shower
The shooting happened on February 28 around 7:15 p.m. in the 2000 block of South Sprague Lane in Anaheim, according to the Anaheim Police Department.
Investigators say several gang members approached rival gang members who were attending a baby shower at the location. During the confrontation, the suspects allegedly opened fire into the gathering.
Police say the gunfire struck multiple people, including:
- Three juvenile victims
- One adult bystander
The three minors were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment and were later reported to be in stable condition. The adult victim was treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
Authorities say the incident created panic among people attending the event, which had been organized to celebrate the upcoming birth of a child.
Four Suspects Arrested
Police identified four suspects connected to the shooting.
One of them is 18-year-old Zine Jassim. The other three suspects are minors whose identities have not been released due to their age.
Law enforcement tracked down the suspects in multiple locations across Orange County.
Two of the suspects were arrested in Whittier on March 1. During that arrest, officers recovered weapons believed to have been used in the attack.
According to police, investigators seized:
- An AR-style rifle
- A handgun
Authorities believe these firearms were used during the shooting.
The remaining two suspects were arrested the following day in Santa Ana.
Police Response and Investigation
Officials praised the quick response of officers and investigators who worked to identify and locate the suspects.
Manny Cid, the police chief in Anaheim, said the department moved quickly to ensure those responsible were taken into custody.
He said the arrests demonstrate the department’s commitment to protecting the community and holding violent offenders accountable.
Police say the case remains under active investigation as detectives continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
Charges Filed Against Suspects
All four suspects are facing multiple serious charges related to the shooting.
According to investigators, the charges may include:
| Charge | Description |
|---|---|
| Attempted murder | Firing weapons with intent to kill |
| Conspiracy | Planning the attack with others |
| Assault | Injuring victims during the shooting |
| Weapons violations | Illegal firearm use or possession |
| Gang enhancements | Additional penalties due to gang involvement |
Gang enhancement charges can significantly increase the potential penalties if the suspects are convicted.
Community Concerns After Shooting
The shooting has raised concerns among residents in Anaheim about gang violence and public safety.
Events such as baby showers and family gatherings are typically peaceful occasions, which made the attack especially shocking for those involved.
Local authorities say incidents like this highlight the dangers of gang conflicts spilling into community events.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information about the case to contact the Anaheim Police Department.
Investigation Continues
Even though four suspects have been arrested, detectives say the investigation is not yet finished.
Authorities are continuing to review:
- Surveillance footage
- Ballistic evidence from the weapons recovered
- Witness statements from people at the baby shower
Investigators will use this evidence to build the case and determine the exact roles of each suspect involved.
