Authorities in Fort Smith confirmed that Marvin Davis, 59, of Ozark, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for the killing of 65-year-old Dorothy Edmonds.
The sentence was handed down on April 22, more than a year after the fatal incident that shocked the local community.
Victim Found With Signs of Foul Play
According to the Fort Smith Police Department, officers responded to a home on South 11th Street around 2:55 a.m. on March 16, 2025, after receiving a report of an unresponsive woman.
When officers arrived, they discovered Edmonds’ body. Investigators noted she had suffered head trauma “consistent with foul play,” prompting the department’s Criminal Investigations Division to take over the case.
Investigation Quickly Identifies Suspect
Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses following the discovery, which led them to identify Davis as a suspect.
On March 18, 2025, Davis was located at a Super 8 Motel. He agreed to accompany officers to the police department for questioning.
Evidence Found During Police Search
While at the station, Davis consented to a search of his belongings. Investigators discovered several key pieces of evidence, including:
- Multiple pieces of jewelry belonging to the victim
- A hospital bracelet with Dorothy Edmonds’ name
- A black and red handle with blood on it
- A knife believed to have been used in the attack
These findings strengthened the case against Davis and linked him directly to the crime.
Charges and Arrest Details
Davis was formally arrested by the Fort Smith Police Department and charged in connection with Edmonds’ death. In addition to the murder charge, he also faced an aggravated residential burglary charge, according to court records.
The sentencing of Marvin Davis brings some closure to a case that began with a disturbing discovery in March 2025. While the 35-year prison sentence marks a significant legal outcome, the loss of Dorothy Edmonds continues to impact her family and the Fort Smith community.
