A man in Tulsa was arrested after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle and then attempting to escape on a skateboard.
The Tulsa Police Department said the suspect, Kade Hewitt, 22, is now facing multiple charges following the unusual sequence of events.
High-Speed Chase Through Neighborhood Streets
According to police, the incident began around 7:30 p.m. Sunday when an officer spotted a gray Hyundai Tucson that had been reported stolen in Broken Arrow.
Authorities said the officer attempted a traffic stop near East Pine Street and North College Avenue, but the driver fled instead.
Police reported that the suspect:
- Reached speeds of about 60 miles per hour
- Weaved through traffic
- Entered a residential area near North Atlanta Place
- Ran multiple stop signs near Springdale Elementary School
Due to safety concerns for children playing outside and other drivers, officers decided to call off the pursuit.
Suspect Abandons Vehicle and Flees
A short time later, officers found the stolen Hyundai still running but abandoned on a nearby street.
Police said children in the area flagged down an officer and reported seeing the suspect skateboarding away from the scene.
Using information from witnesses, officers were directed to a nearby home where the suspect was found outside, appearing to work on a motorcycle.
