A Billings woman is once again facing serious legal trouble after being arrested for driving under the influence. The case has raised concerns due to her previous record and the dangerous nature of the incident on a busy highway.
DUI Case Filed Against Billings Woman
A 41-year-old woman, Krystle Marie Stephens, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, along with a misdemeanor count of reckless driving.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the arrest took place on February 28 along Interstate 35 after authorities received reports of a possible accident involving injuries.
What Happened on I-35
Troopers and local police from Tonkawa responded to the scene. Trooper Aaron Crompton reported that a black vehicle was found on the northbound side of the highway.
Initial findings suggest:
- The car was moving at a high speed
- The driver missed the exit
- The vehicle hit the Exit 211 traffic sign
The crash could have caused serious harm, but details about injuries have not been confirmed.
Driver’s Condition Raised Concerns
When Trooper Crompton spoke to Stephens, he noticed unusual behaviour that indicated possible impairment.
He reported that:
- She could not form complete sentences
- She repeated the same statements multiple times
- Her speech was slow and slurred
- Her body movements appeared sluggish
At one point, Stephens reportedly said repeatedly that she was not a meth addict, which raised further suspicion.
Evidence Found at the Scene
While interacting with Stephens, the trooper noticed several pill bottles inside her vehicle. One of them was labelled “Butlb-Acetamin,” which is often associated with headache medication.
When questioned:
- Stephens denied using illegal drugs
- She admitted to taking her “headache medication”
She later agreed to undergo a field sobriety test, after which she was arrested.
Previous DUI Record Adds Seriousness
This is not Stephens’ first offence. She had already been arrested earlier:
- On February 13, 2025, by Ponca City police for DUI
- She later pleaded guilty to the charge
The case was handled by Thomas Griesedieck, who sentenced her to:
- One year suspended jail sentence
- 40 hours of community service
Despite this, she was arrested again, which could lead to stricter punishment.
Court Date and Current Status
Stephens is currently out on a bond of $7,500. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May, where further legal action will be decided.
This case highlights the serious risks of driving under the influence, especially for repeat offenders. Krystle Marie Stephens’ actions not only endangered her own life but also put others on the road at risk. With a previous DUI conviction already on record, this second arrest could result in stricter penalties.
It also shows the importance of following the law and avoiding impaired driving at all costs. Authorities continue to treat such cases seriously to ensure public safety and prevent accidents that could lead to loss of life.
