A shocking attack inside a popular restaurant in Georgia has left customers stunned after police say a woman was randomly stabbed while eating lunch. Authorities say the victim did not know the suspect and had no interaction with him before the sudden violence.
The accused attacker, 22-year-old Walter Scrutchings, has now been arrested and charged in connection with the disturbing incident.
Woman Randomly Stabbed During Lunch
According to the DeKalb County Police Department, the attack happened around 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday at a First Watch restaurant on Blackmon Drive in Decatur.
Police said the woman was peacefully eating lunch when Scrutchings allegedly walked up to her and stabbed her in the back without warning.
Authorities described the attack as random and said the suspect and victim were strangers.
Victim Managed to Escape and Seek Help
Despite suffering injuries, the woman reportedly managed to leave the restaurant and make her way to a nearby business to ask for help.
Emergency responders later transported her to a local hospital for treatment.
Police said her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Investigators have not released the victim’s identity.
Suspect Arrested at the Scene
Officers quickly responded to the restaurant after receiving reports of the stabbing.
Authorities said Walter Scrutchings was arrested shortly afterward and taken into custody without major incident.
He is currently being held in the DeKalb County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault.
As of now, court officials have not listed a future hearing date in the case.

The attack has shaken residents in Decatur, a suburban area located northeast of Atlanta.
Local resident Charlie Cote told reporters that the neighborhood is usually considered safe and family-friendly.
He reportedly said:
“I’ve lived here most of my life and I kind of take for granted that it’s a safe, pedestrian-friendly area.”
The random nature of the attack has increased concerns among local residents and restaurant visitors.
