An 18-year-old Rhode Island teen has been arrested in connection with a stabbing at a crowded beach that sent people running in panic earlier this week.
Teen Arrested After Beach Stabbing
Willy Medina, a resident of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, was taken into custody Friday by the Rhode Island State Police. He will now be handed over to the Narragansett Police Department.
Medina is charged with one count of felony assault and was arraigned the same day, Narragansett Police Chief Kyle Rekas said.
Details of the Incident
The stabbing took place on May 19 at Narragansett Town Beach, where hundreds of teenagers were gathered. Police responded after receiving reports of a stabbing and found three people with minor stab wounds.
No suspects were immediately identified at the time. Police have not shared how Medina was connected to the stabbing incident.
Authorities noted that as the crowd tried to leave the beach, several other disturbances broke out, adding to the chaos.
Other Arrests at the Scene
Two unidentified adults were also arrested during the incident and charged with simple assault, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice. Police said these arrests do not appear to be related to the stabbing.
Medina’s Previous Charges
At the time of the stabbing, Medina was already out on bail for a separate weapons-related case. He had been charged with carrying a pistol without a license or permit, firing a gun in a compact area, vandalism, and disorderly conduct.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the stabbing
