A shocking incident in New York has finally seen an arrest after several months. A man accused of driving his car onto a busy sidewalk and hitting multiple pedestrians has been taken into custody. The case had raised serious concerns about public safety in crowded urban areas.
Man Arrested Months After Bronx Incident
Williejoe Delgado, 23, was arrested on March 25 by the New York Police Department warrant squad.
The arrest comes more than eight months after the incident, which took place in July 2025 in the Bronx area of New York City.
Car Driven Onto Busy Sidewalk
According to police, Delgado was allegedly driving a 2017 Ford Mustang when he suddenly drove onto a sidewalk near Courtland Avenue and East 149th Street.
The incident happened just before 11 a.m., a time when the area was busy with pedestrians.
Authorities said the car:
- Mounted the sidewalk unexpectedly
- Hit multiple pedestrians
- Crashed into nearby scaffolding
After the crash, the driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and ran away from the scene.
Six People Injured in the Incident
A total of six people were injured in the Incident, including:
- A 30-year-old man and woman
- A 43-year-old man
- A 49-year-old woman
- A 69-year-old man
- A 79-year-old woman
Thankfully, all victims suffered only minor injuries and were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Police Investigation and Search
After the incident, the NYPD launched a search for the suspect. Surveillance images were released to the public to help identify the driver.
The vehicle used in the incident was found badly damaged:
- The front bumper was almost completely torn off
- The windshield was shattered
- The car had no license plates
These details helped investigators track down the suspect over time.
Serious Charges Filed
Police have now charged Delgado with attempted murder, showing how seriously authorities are treating the case.
Officials also confirmed that this is his first known arrest. He was scheduled to appear in Bronx Criminal Court for arraignment shortly after being taken into custody.
No Structural Damage Reported
Despite the crash involving scaffolding, authorities confirmed that there were no major structural issues found at the site.
This helped prevent further danger in the already crowded area.
