A tragic incident in Texas has left a family heartbroken after a teenage girl lost her life following a Valentine’s Day party. What started as a night of fun quickly turned into a shocking crime, raising many questions about what really happened.
What Happened on Valentine’s Day Night
The incident took place just after midnight on February 14 at a large party in south Houston. Around 300 people had gathered at a house on Dagg Road when police received a call about a disturbance.
As officers reached the location, gunshots were heard, and people started running from the scene in panic. During this chaos, 17-year-old Mariah Alatorre was shot.
Instead of waiting for emergency services, her friends quickly took her away from the party in a private vehicle.
Delay in Medical Treatment Raises Questions
One of the most confusing parts of this case is how Mariah was taken for treatment. Instead of being rushed to the nearest hospital, she was driven nearly 40 miles away to an urgent care centre in another part of Houston.
After that, she was shifted to a hospital, where she sadly passed away due to her injuries.
This delay has raised serious concerns. Her mother has openly questioned why her daughter was not taken to a closer hospital, asking what happened during those critical hours.
Victim Remembered as Loving and Caring
Mariah Alatorre is being remembered as a kind and loving person who always cared for her family and friends.
According to her obituary:
- She had a cheerful and caring nature
- She was always ready to help others
- Her presence brought happiness to people around her
Her sudden death has deeply affected her family, who are still searching for answers.
Arrest of Two Brothers
After more than two months of investigation, authorities arrested two brothers in connection with the case:
- Enrique Aguilar, 19 – charged with murder
- Romeo Aguilar, 18 – charged with possession of a prohibited weapon
Both are currently in custody at the Harris County Jail.
What Investigators Believe Happened
According to prosecutors, Mariah had already left the party safely with friends, including Enrique Aguilar.
Later, when the group stopped near the urgent care centre, Enrique allegedly started playing with a gun. This reportedly led to the shooting that killed Mariah.
Enrique has claimed that the shooting was accidental. However, the judge handling the case expressed doubt over this claim.
The judge pointed out that the victim was shot multiple times and mentioned video evidence that showed behaviour that did not seem accidental.
Family’s Reaction
Mariah’s family is devastated by the loss. Her mother shared that her daughter trusted the people she was with that night.
Now, the family believes that trust was broken.
Her mother said, “She trusted the wrong people,” reflecting the pain and disappointment they are going through.
Current Legal Status
The case is now moving through the legal system:
- Enrique Aguilar is being held on a $500,000 bond and is expected in court on June 11
- Romeo Aguilar is being held on a $30,000 bond and has a court date scheduled soon
Authorities continue to investigate, and more details may come out during the trial.
