A Missouri man is facing multiple serious criminal charges after investigators say he sexually assaulted three different women at an apartment complex in the St. Louis area. Police now believe there may be additional victims and are asking the public to come forward with any information.
The disturbing case has raised serious safety concerns as investigators continue gathering evidence.
Missouri Man Charged in Multiple Sexual Assault Cases
Authorities have identified the suspect as 31-year-old Lorenzo Gaines.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, Gaines has been charged with multiple felony offenses, including:
- Four counts of rape
- One count of sodomy
- One count of sexual abuse
Police say the alleged assaults happened at an apartment complex in St. Louis County, Missouri, over a period of several weeks.
Police Say First Victim Met Suspect Through Social Media
According to court documents, the first alleged assault happened on April 9.
Investigators say Gaines allegedly contacted the woman through Instagram, and the two agreed to meet in person.
Police claim the woman believed she would be paid for a sexual encounter.
However, when she arrived at the apartment complex, investigators say she became uncomfortable after Gaines allegedly suggested having sex in a public bathroom.
According to the criminal complaint, when she attempted to back away, Gaines allegedly forced her inside against her will.
Police say he then sexually assaulted her while allegedly placing his hand around her neck.
Second Alleged Assault Happened One Day Later
According to investigators, another woman met Gaines at the same apartment complex the following day.
Police say the second victim also agreed to meet Gaines before the situation allegedly became violent.
According to the complaint, Gaines allegedly:
- Forced the woman into a bathroom
- Removed her clothing against her will
- Ignored repeated demands to stop
- Sexually assaulted her despite her saying “no” multiple times
Investigators say the woman later reported the incident to police.
Third Woman Reportedly Assaulted in May
Police say a third alleged victim came forward regarding an incident that happened on May 1.
According to investigators, this woman also initially believed she would be paid for a consensual encounter.
However, police allege that Gaines instead sexually assaulted her after she arrived at the apartment complex.
Authorities included this incident in the criminal charges now filed against him.
Police Believe There Could Be More Victims
The St. Louis County Police Department says investigators believe additional victims may exist.
In a public statement, authorities urged anyone who may have had contact with Gaines or believes they may have been victimized to contact detectives immediately.
Investigators continue reviewing evidence, witness statements, and digital communications connected to the case.
Suspect Remains in Jail
Lorenzo Gaines is currently being held in custody while the criminal case moves forward.
Court records show he is scheduled to appear in court for a bond reduction hearing on May 11.
As of now, it is not publicly known whether he has entered a formal plea.
