A disturbing child abuse case from Utah has come to light after two young children were allegedly subjected to extreme punishments by their mother’s boyfriend. The situation was uncovered when one of the children was hospitalised with hypothermia, leading to a police investigation.
Serious Charges Filed in Utah
The accused, Jordan Taylor, 28, from Blanding, is facing multiple charges. These include aggravated child abuse, child torture, kidnapping, domestic violence in the presence of a child, reckless endangerment, and unlawful detention of a minor.
According to court documents, the case involves two children, aged 6 and 3, who were living with Taylor and their mother.
Punishments Involved Physical Strain
Investigators say Taylor used harsh and unusual punishments when the children misbehaved, especially for taking sweets or snacks without permission.
The children were reportedly forced to do exercises such as squats, planks, and wall sits for long periods. These punishments were described as physically exhausting and inappropriate for children of such a young age.
Taylor allegedly told police that these punishments were his own idea and were used whenever the children got into trouble.
Alleged Forced Fighting Between Siblings
The situation becomes more disturbing with claims that the children were forced to practice Muay Thai techniques on each other.
According to reports, the 6-year-old girl was made to perform moves on her 3-year-old brother. If the boy cried during this, he would be punished further.
The girl also told investigators that her brother’s mouth was once taped shut while he was forced to continue exercising.
Strict Control Over Food
Court documents mention that access to food was tightly controlled. The refrigerator and freezer were reportedly locked.
The alleged abuse was said to have been triggered by incidents where the children took food, such as cake or candy, without permission.
Hospitalisation Leads to Investigation
The case came to light when the 3-year-old boy was taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia. Doctors also found bruises across his body, which raised serious concerns.
This led authorities to launch an investigation on April 22. Police noted marks on the child’s body, including around the wrists, which suggested he may have been restrained.
Cold Shower Punishments
One of the most serious allegations is that the children were subjected to ice-cold showers as punishment. These conditions are believed to have contributed to the boy’s hypothermia.
According to the daughter’s statement, these punishments sometimes happened when their mother was present but did not intervene.
Mother’s Role Under Question
Reports suggest that the children referred to Taylor as their father, even though he was their mother’s boyfriend.
When asked about their mother’s reaction, the daughter reportedly said that the situation would “hurt her head,” and she would put on headphones while the punishments were carried out.
Investigators are looking into this aspect as well.
Police Doubt Family’s Explanation
Both the mother and children reportedly claimed that the injuries were caused during Muay Thai practice. However, investigators did not believe this explanation.
Authorities said the combination of hypothermia, bruising, and other signs clearly pointed to abuse rather than training.
Current Status of the Case
As of now, the exact jail and court status of Jordan Taylor has not been publicly confirmed. The investigation is ongoing, and more details may come out as the case progresses.
This case highlights a deeply troubling situation involving young children and alleged extreme punishment methods. The combination of physical strain, lack of proper care, and dangerous conditions has raised serious concerns about child safety.
While the legal process will determine the outcome, the case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children and recognising signs of abuse early. Authorities will continue to investigate and ensure that the children involved receive the support and protection they need.
