A 30-year-old man, Ian Grandison, has been charged with attempted rape, attempted sexual abuse, and stalking in connection with the assault of an 84-year-old woman in a Manhattan park.
Alleged Assault on March 11
On March 11, Grandison allegedly opened the door of a bathroom stall in a Manhattan park and pushed the elderly victim to the ground. According to a criminal complaint obtained by WPIX, he then pulled her pants down and attempted to assault her. A witness in the restroom reportedly intervened, pulling Grandison off the victim and capturing a photo of him before he fled the scene.
Previous Incident on March 4
Authorities also connected Grandison to a prior incident that occurred on March 4, in which he allegedly followed a 51-year-old woman, kissed her, and then fled in a vehicle. The victim reportedly took a photo of Grandison during the incident, which later helped identify him.
Arrest and Admission
Grandison was arrested at his apartment on March 11. When police showed him the photo of the earlier incident, he allegedly admitted, “That’s me,” and also mentioned that he had just been released from Bellevue Hospital.
Bail and Upcoming Court Date
Grandison’s bail was set at $300,000 bond or $100,000 cash. He is scheduled to return to court on April 15, according to WPIX.
