An Ohio man has been accused of choking his adult daughter during a heated family argument that reportedly started over the condition of her bedroom. Authorities say the disturbing domestic violence incident happened inside the family’s home and led to the father’s arrest later that same day.
Ohio Father Accused of Choking Daughter During Argument
Jeffrey Canzonetta, 56, has been accused of assaulting his 22-year-old daughter during an argument at their home in Vienna Township, Ohio.
According to an incident report from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a domestic violence call around 1:30 p.m. on May 9.
The daughter reportedly told authorities that her father had been “acting crazy” before the situation turned violent.
Argument Started Over Messy Bedroom
Investigators said the incident began when Canzonetta allegedly entered his daughter’s bedroom and made negative comments about how messy the room was.
According to the report, the argument quickly escalated.
The daughter claimed her father kept moving closer to her even though she repeatedly told him to leave the room.
Police said yelling and pushing between the two later moved into the hallway area of the house.
Mother Allegedly Pushed During Fight
Canzonetta’s wife, Maria, reportedly told deputies she woke up after hearing the argument.
According to investigators, she saw both her husband and daughter screaming and pushing each other.
When she attempted to step in and calm the situation, Canzonetta allegedly pushed her to the ground.
Authorities included her statement as part of the domestic violence investigation.
Daughter Says Father Choked Her
The situation allegedly became more serious after the daughter called 911 for help.
According to the police report, Canzonetta allegedly grabbed his daughter by the throat and began choking her.
Investigators stated:
“The victim stated that her father pushed her against the wall and put his hand around her throat and squeezed tightly and she couldn’t breathe.”
Police said the father later left the home and went to work.
Suspect Arrested at Workplace
Deputies later located Canzonetta at his workplace and arrested him without incident.
He was transported to the county jail following the arrest.
Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding possible court appearances or formal charges connected to the case.
