A road rage incident in Idaho has taken a serious turn after a 19-year-old teenager was arrested for allegedly attacking an older man during a confrontation that began after a near car accident.
The case has gained attention because what started as a traffic argument quickly became a violent fight that left one man in hospital with serious injuries. Police say the teenager later claimed he was acting in self-defense, but investigators believe the situation may have gone far beyond that.
Idaho Teen Released on Bond After Road Rage Assault Case
Thomas Andrew Larsen, a 19-year-old from Idaho, has been released on a $10,000 bond after being charged with aggravated battery. According to court records, Larsen was taken into custody on April 27 following a violent altercation that happened just two days earlier in Blackfoot, Idaho.
Authorities say Larsen was driving a maroon car on April 25 when he nearly crashed into a woman’s vehicle as she was backing out of a driveway. The close call reportedly upset the woman’s father, who decided to follow Larsen in his pickup truck to confront him.
What happened next turned into a dangerous road rage incident that left the older man seriously injured.
Father Chased Teen After Near Accident
According to police reports, the woman’s father got into his truck immediately after seeing Larsen almost hit his daughter’s car. He followed Larsen’s vehicle through the area, hoping to confront him about his driving.
Court documents reveal that Larsen admitted he noticed the man following him. He also reportedly admitted to brake-checking the man during the chase and making offensive hand gestures.
Eventually, Larsen stopped his car, and the older man pulled over as well.
Police say two young men, Larsen and his passenger, got out of the vehicle. An argument quickly started between the three men.
The older man reportedly told Larsen:
“ You almost hit my daughter. Learn how to drive.”
Moments later, the confrontation became physical.
Victim Says He Blacked Out During Attack
The injured man later told police that after the argument, he suddenly found himself getting up from the ground and had little memory of exactly what happened.
When officers arrived at his home, they reportedly found:
- Severe nose bleeding
- Blood on his chest and knee
- A large scrape on the back of his head
- Signs that he had lost consciousness
The man told investigators he did not fully remember the attack, only waking up and trying to recover.
Police later found a large amount of blood at the scene.
Teen Claims He Was Acting in Self-Defense
When police questioned Larsen, he gave his version of events.
He told officers he had stopped suddenly after noticing the woman’s car backing out of the driveway and then safely drove around it.
Larsen admitted that he knew the man was chasing him and confirmed that he brake-checked the pickup truck.
Regarding the fight, Larsen claimed the older man hit him first.
According to Larsen, he responded by punching the man twice in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.
However, Larsen also reportedly admitted that after the man fell, he hit him three more times in the face while he was on the ground.
Larsen later told police:
He was scared because it was his first fight, and the older man was much bigger than him.
Police Question Teen’s Self-Defense Claim
Investigators reportedly informed Larsen that self-defense may not apply if he continued attacking the man after he was already down and no longer posing a threat.
After hearing Larsen’s full statement, officers arrested him and booked him into the Bingham County Jail on charges of aggravated battery.
Police believe the continued punches after the victim fell could weaken Larsen’s claim that he was only defending himself.

Police later visited the injured man at the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with:
