A disturbing case in Utah has led to serious criminal charges after police say a man repeatedly used threats involving immigration enforcement and child custody to control and sexually abuse the mother of his child.

Utah Man Charged With Rape and Sexual Extortion
A 57-year-old man has been arrested in South Salt Lake after being accused of rape and sexual extortion.
Police have not publicly identified the suspect in order to protect the privacy of the couple’s daughter.
According to investigators, the man was arrested on May 12 following an investigation by local authorities.
Police Say Abuse Continued for Months
According to court documents, investigators say the suspect allegedly forced the woman to have sex against her will at least once a week beginning in June 2025.
Police allege the suspect repeatedly used threats involving:
- Child custody
- Immigration enforcement
- Harm to the victim’s family
- Fear of separation from her daughter
Investigators say the threats were designed to control the victim and force compliance.

According to police, the suspect allegedly told the woman he would contact immigration authorities on her and her family.
Investigators say he believed those threats could help him gain custody of their child.

Police say the suspect contacted the woman, telling her they needed to discuss matters involving their daughter.

- The victim reportedly feared for her safety
- She allegedly complied because of those threats
Police say the suspect then took her to a hotel.
Victim Says Assault Continued at Hotel
According to investigators, the suspect allegedly forced the woman to shower after arriving at the hotel.
Police say that after she came out of the shower, the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Investigators allege the victim repeatedly told him to stop, but he continued despite her objections.
Suspect Now Facing Serious Charges
Authorities have charged the suspect with:
- Rape
- Sexual extortion
As of now, court records have not confirmed whether he has entered a plea.
