A disturbing domestic violence case in Utah has led to serious criminal charges after a man was accused of trying to kill his wife during a violent attack at their home. Investigators say the suspect allegedly tried to snap his wife’s neck while repeatedly choking her and making terrifying statements.
The incident has drawn attention not only because of its brutality, but also because police say the accused had a long history of domestic violence and had only recently been released from jail.
Utah Man Charged With Attempted Murder
Aaron Ray Thomas, 27, has been charged with multiple serious offenses following an alleged attack on his wife in Tooele County.
The charges include:
- Attempted murder
- Aggravated kidnapping
- Reckless endangerment
Authorities say the violent incident happened on May 7 at the couple’s home.
Victim Says Husband Tried to Break Her Neck
According to investigators, Thomas’ wife told police that her husband tried to kill her by grabbing her neck and head with both hands.
She alleged that:
- One hand was placed around her throat and under her chin
- The other hand was placed behind her head
- He then violently twisted her neck
Police documents say the victim told officers that Thomas was trying to snap her neck during the attack.
Investigators also say he allegedly made threatening statements during the assault, including wishing for her death.
911 Call Captured Victim’s Screams
The woman managed to call emergency services during the incident.
Police say dispatchers could hear her screaming and crying for help during the 911 call.
According to investigators, after escaping the home, she tried to leave in her car.
However, Thomas allegedly jumped behind the vehicle, stopping her from driving away.
When officers arrived, they reportedly observed visible red marks on her neck.
The victim told police she genuinely feared for her life.
Previous Scissors Attack Reported Earlier
Court records show this was not the first violent incident involving Thomas.
Police say in March, Thomas allegedly attacked his wife with a pair of scissors during an argument.
According to investigators:
- He allegedly stabbed her in the hand
- He then allegedly stabbed himself twice in the arm
- He later reportedly claimed his wife had caused the injuries
This earlier case was already under investigation before the latest attack.
Police Report Long History of Domestic Violence
Authorities say Thomas has an extensive criminal history involving domestic violence.
Investigators report that law enforcement had responded to at least 10 previous domestic-related incidents involving the couple.
Police also revealed that Thomas had only recently been released from jail before the latest alleged attack.
Repeated Welfare Check Calls Raised Concerns
According to investigators, Thomas had reportedly called police 11 different times asking officers to conduct welfare checks on his wife.
Officers stated that these calls often happened after suspected but unreported domestic incidents.
Police said when officers contacted the woman during previous welfare checks, she repeatedly said she did not want Thomas to know her location because she feared his violent behavior.
Suspect Being Held Without Bail
After the May 7 incident, Aaron Ray Thomas was arrested and booked into the Tooele County Detention Center.
He is currently being held without bail while the case moves through the legal system.
Given the seriousness of the allegations and his reported criminal history, prosecutors are expected to pursue the case aggressively.
Case Highlights Ongoing Domestic Violence Concerns
This case has once again highlighted the dangers faced by victims of repeated domestic abuse.
Investigators say the victim had previously tried to distance herself from Thomas, but his alleged pattern of violence continued.
As the court process begins, authorities say victim safety remains a top priority.
