OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA – All lanes of westbound I-40 have now reopened at the Fort Smith junction following a crash on Sunday morning. Additionally, all lanes of westbound I-44 at Lake Hefner Parkway are now open. However, earlier today, both highways faced significant closures due to separate wrecks involving a semi-truck.
Crash on I-44 at Lake Hefner Parkway
A wreck involving a semi-truck on westbound I-44 at State Highway 74 and Lake Hefner Parkway caused a temporary shutdown of all westbound lanes on Sunday morning. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) advised drivers to avoid the area and suggested using northbound State Highway 74 as a detour.
Crash on I-40 at Ft. Smith Junction
In a separate incident, all westbound lanes of I-40 at the I-35/Ft. Smith junction were closed due to another wreck. Traffic was diverted to northbound I-35, and ODOT issued a notice advising drivers to find alternate routes until the lanes could reopen.
Both incidents caused significant traffic delays in the affected areas, and ODOT sent out updates as soon as the lanes were cleared.
Current Status and Safety Reminders
As of now, both wreck sites have been cleared, and traffic flow has resumed in the previously affected areas. ODOT continues to monitor the roads for any further disruptions and encourages drivers to stay informed through their traffic alerts.
