An Oklahoma City woman has been convicted of first-degree manslaughter following the shooting death of 24-year-old Brianne Torres in October 2022. The tragic incident occurred at an apartment complex near N.W. 82nd and Rockwell around 1 a.m. on October 7, 2022.
Details of the Incident
When Oklahoma City police arrived at the scene, they found Torres suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save her, Torres later succumbed to her injuries. During the investigation, Rana Sievert, the woman responsible for the shooting, admitted to being involved in a physical altercation with Torres.
Sievert explained that during the fight, she grabbed Torres’ handgun from a nearby nightstand and shot Torres once. The events leading to the shooting raised questions about the circumstances, but Sievert’s actions ultimately led to her being charged and tried for manslaughter.
Verdict and Sentence Recommendation
On Friday, Sievert was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter in connection to Torres’ death. After deliberation, the jury recommended a 35-year prison sentence for Sievert.
Oklahoma County District Attorney Vicki Behenna commented on the verdict, stating, “This verdict and the recommended sentence reflect the seriousness of the defendant’s actions and the devastating consequences of that night.
While no outcome can undo the loss suffered by the victim’s loved ones, we hope this verdict brings them a measure of justice for Bree.”
Upcoming Sentencing
Sievert’s formal sentencing has been scheduled for June 11, 2026. This case serves as a tragic reminder of the devastating consequences of violent confrontations and the seriousness with which the justice system handles cases of manslaughter.
The family of Brianne Torres has expressed hope that the trial’s outcome will provide some measure of justice for their loss.
