OKLAHOMA — A shooting at a “Sunday Funday” party near Arcadia Lake, a popular outdoor recreation area near Oklahoma City, left at least 12 people hospitalized late Sunday evening, police said.
Officers from the Edmond Police Department responded around 9 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired at the gathering. First responders arrived to find panicked partygoers and multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police Describe the Incident and Investigation
According to police, the shooting occurred at a party attended by “young adults,” although authorities have not yet released exact ages of those present.
Public Information Officer Emily Ward of the Edmond Police Department called the situation “very terrifying,” adding that law enforcement was working “extremely hard to find the suspects.”
Early reports indicate that two men wearing ski masks opened fire on the crowd before fleeing the scene. No arrests have been made so far, and police are actively examining footage from Flock license plate reader cameras to help identify and locate those responsible.
Eyewitness Accounts Describe Chaos and Injury
Bystanders described a chaotic aftermath as victims tried to seek safety and medical help.
One witness, Armani Kessee, told News 9 she helped a woman who appeared to have been struck by a stray bullet. Kessee said the scene was distressing and emotional, especially seeing friends and loved ones harmed.
Another victim reportedly drove themselves to a nearby OnCue convenience store seeking help before emergency responders arrived.
Ward said the number of injured people might climb higher as some victims may have sought medical attention on their own.
Victims Transported to Multiple Hospitals
At least nine patients were taken to Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, while three others were transported to Integris Health Edmond Hospital.
A hospital system spokesperson told The Associated Press that patients were still being assessed late Sunday night, and authorities could not yet confirm everyone’s condition.
Law Enforcement Response and Public Safety
The Edmond Police Department led the response, assisted by the Oklahoma City Police Department, the Edmond Fire Department, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
News outlets reported a large law enforcement presence at the scene, with flashing lights from multiple emergency vehicles as authorities worked to secure the area.
Ward told reporters that at this time, there was no indication of a continued threat to the public related to the shooting.
