A shocking murder investigation in Missouri has led to the arrest of two men after a missing woman was found dead weeks after she disappeared. Authorities say the case involves disturbing allegations of murder, threats, and an attempt to hide the victim’s body.
The victim, 43-year-old Janice Cook, was reported missing in April after her family noticed she had suddenly stopped posting on social media and was no longer in contact with loved ones. Investigators later uncovered evidence that led them to a burial site and two suspects now facing serious criminal charges.
Two Men Arrested in Janice Cook Death Investigation
Authorities with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest of Billy Tabor, 70, and Colby Eisel, 39.
Tabor has been charged with:
- First-degree murder
- Abandonment of a corpse
Eisel has been charged with:
- Abandonment of a corpse
Both men are currently being held at the county jail as the investigation continues.
Janice Cook Was Reported Missing After Going Silent
Janice Cook, 43, was officially reported missing on April 9 after her family became concerned when her social media accounts suddenly went inactive after March 27.
Friends and relatives told investigators that this behaviour was completely unlike Cook, raising immediate concerns about her safety.
Police also discovered that Cook’s vehicle had been abandoned on March 28, and her dog was found nearly a mile away from the vehicle.
Family members reportedly told investigators that Cook would never leave her dog behind voluntarily.
Phone Records Led Investigators to Windsor
Investigators examined Cook’s phone activity and discovered her last known location was in Windsor.
Police found that the last person Cook had contacted was Billy Tabor, who lived in Windsor.
When questioned, Tabor admitted Cook had visited his property during the early morning hours of March 28 but claimed she left after only a short visit.
However, investigators say he could not provide an exact time for her departure.
Witness Shares Chilling Account
According to court documents, a witness later came forward with disturbing information.
The witness told police he arrived at Tabor’s property around 2 a.m. on March 28 and allegedly saw Cook lying motionless on the ground.
He also claimed Tabor appeared extremely agitated and was pacing back and forth.
According to the witness, Tabor then allegedly:
- Retrieved ropes
- Tied them to Cook’s body
- Attached the ropes to a Honda CR-V
- Dragged her body across the property
The witness said Tabor later ordered him to help dig a grave.
Body Allegedly Buried on Property
Investigators say the witness described how Cook’s body was wrapped in black material before being placed into a large hole on Tabor’s property.
The witness also claimed Tabor threatened to shoot him if he refused to help move Cook’s vehicle and personal belongings to another county.
According to investigators, the witness later led authorities back to the burial site.
Human remains were recovered from the property, and investigators believe they belong to Janice Cook. Formal identification through forensic testing is still pending.
Suspect Allegedly Made Disturbing Comments
During the investigation, police reportedly learned that Tabor allegedly told another woman that she “would not have to worry about J.J. anymore,” referring to Cook by her nickname.
When someone allegedly asked if he had killed Cook, investigators say Tabor laughed and walked away without answering.
These statements became part of the evidence used in the investigation.
Court Proceedings Underway
Billy Tabor remains in custody without bond and is scheduled for a bond hearing on May 5.
Colby Eisel is being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Janice Cook’s death while awaiting final forensic confirmation of the recovered remains.
This heartbreaking case has deeply affected Cook’s family, friends, and the local community. As investigators continue gathering evidence, the upcoming court proceedings are expected to reveal more details about what happened during the final hours of Janice Cook’s life.
