A West Virginia mother has been sentenced to life in prison after admitting that she killed her 4-year-old daughter in a shocking case that disturbed many people across the United States. After denying the crime for years and blaming her husband, Rebakah Weikle finally confessed in court to murdering her daughter Haley in July 2022.
Mother Pleads Guilty in Daughter’s Murder Case
Rebakah Weikle pleaded guilty on April 30 to first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. Prosecutors confirmed that she admitted to killing her daughter Haley after years of denying involvement.
She was sentenced to life in prison and will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years.
According to Summers County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Lefler, everyone involved in the case was relieved that the truth finally came out.
What Happened to Haley Weikle
Investigators said the incident happened on the night of July 11, 2022. Prosecutors claimed that after the family had dinner and everyone went to sleep, Rebakah took Haley to her bedroom and attacked her with a knife.
Officials said the child struggled during the attack before suffering fatal injuries.
The next morning, Haley was found dead inside the home.
Investigators Found Disturbing Searches
During the investigation, authorities discovered that Rebakah had searched online for topics related to harming people, knife injuries, throat wounds, and fingerprints before and after the murder.
Prosecutors said these searches became an important part of the investigation and helped build the case against her.
False Accusations Against Husband Rusty Weikle
For years, Rebakah blamed her husband Rusty Weikle for Haley’s death. She also falsely accused him of abuse.
Later, prosecutors confirmed that she admitted those claims were lies and confessed to carrying out the murder herself.
Authorities said they do not believe Rusty was involved in the killing or cleanup.
Rusty Weikle Faced Child Neglect Charges
Although investigators cleared Rusty of murder involvement, prosecutors argued that he ignored warning signs involving his wife’s behaviour.
Rusty later pleaded guilty to child neglect resulting in death and charges related to the safety of the couple’s surviving children.
He was sentenced to home confinement and probation after already spending years in custody.
Emotional Statements in Court
Rusty attended court during Rebakah’s guilty plea hearing and emotionally spoke about losing his daughter.
He said Haley was an innocent child and claimed his wife became jealous of the attention he gave their daughter.
The prosecutor also said the case emotionally affected everyone involved because of the disturbing details and Haley’s young age.
