A former nurse in Georgia has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of murdering his wife, a young nurse whose death shocked her family, friends, and local community.
The convicted killer, Benjamin Lee Whitaker, 37, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2021 killing of his wife, Tiffani Jade Scarborough, who was just 25 years old.
The sentencing took place on April 28 in Georgia, nearly four years after Scarborough was found dead inside her home.
Young Nurse Found Dead During Welfare Check
The investigation began on June 30, 2021, in Dublin after two of Scarborough’s coworkers became concerned when she failed to report for work.
After being unable to contact her, the coworkers requested a welfare check.
When authorities arrived at her home, they discovered Scarborough lying on the kitchen floor with fatal gunshot wounds.
The heartbreaking discovery launched an immediate homicide investigation.
Husband Found After Manhunt
Following the killing, Whitaker disappeared, leading law enforcement to launch a manhunt.
Authorities eventually located him hiding in wooded areas in a nearby county on July 1, 2021.
He was taken into custody and later charged with his wife’s murder.
Investigators revealed that the couple had been married for less than two months before Scarborough was killed.
Confession Played in Court
During Whitaker’s murder trial earlier this year, jurors were shown recorded police interview footage.
According to courtroom testimony, Whitaker admitted shooting his wife during an argument.
Police said Whitaker claimed Scarborough had been criticizing him over drinking alcohol.
During questioning, he allegedly told investigators that her “constant nagging” caused him to lose control.
That statement became a key part of the prosecution’s case.
