A tragic case from Illinois has shocked many people after a 7-month-old baby died under suspicious circumstances. The accused, a 27-year-old man, is now in jail as the investigation continues.
Incident Reported in Rockford, Illinois
The incident took place in Rockford, where police responded to an emergency call about an unresponsive baby. Authorities rushed to the home on Sunday morning after receiving the call.
The infant was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but sadly, the baby passed away later the same day. Officials later confirmed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma, raising serious concerns about what had happened inside the house.
Accused Identified and Charged
The man arrested in this case has been identified as Jaden Hearns. He is facing multiple serious charges, including murder, aggravated domestic battery, and aggravated battery against a child.
Police reports stated that Hearns was the only adult present with the baby at the time of the incident. This made him a key person in the investigation right from the beginning.
Changing Statements Raised Suspicion
According to court documents, Hearns initially told police that he did not know what had happened to his baby. However, his version of events reportedly changed during questioning.
He later said that he had been playing video games early in the morning and heard the baby crying around 3:45 a.m. He also claimed that he had a poor memory and could not clearly explain the timeline of events.
These changing statements raised serious doubts for investigators.
Serious Injuries Found on the Baby
Medical reports revealed that the baby had suffered severe injuries. Doctors found two skull fractures on different parts of the head, along with multiple rib fractures and a broken femur.
These injuries indicated that the child had been subjected to significant force. Authorities concluded that the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Previous Case and Legal Violations
Further investigation showed that Hearns was already facing legal trouble before this incident. He was on pretrial release in a domestic battery case involving the baby’s mother.
In that earlier case, he was accused of assaulting her during pregnancy. A court had ordered him not to have any contact with her. However, reports suggest that she would still sometimes stay at his house.
At the time of this incident, the mother was not present, and Hearns was alone with the baby.
Additional Concerns Found During Investigation
Authorities also found more concerning details during their investigation. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Hearns carrying a firearm inside the house.
Police later recovered a rifle and ammunition from the property. While this is a separate issue, it added to the seriousness of the case.
Court Decision and Current Status
During a court hearing held on Tuesday, the judge reviewed the case and decided that Hearns had violated the conditions of his earlier release.
As a result, he was ordered to remain in custody at the local jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 27.
