A frightening incident in Stillwater has led to serious criminal charges against a young man from Oklahoma City.
What started as a disturbance quickly turned into a tense and dangerous situation, leaving the victim shaken and her vehicle badly damaged.
Court Orders Appearance in Felony Case
A 20-year-old man, Rico DeJuan Wilson, has been ordered to appear in court on June 1. He is facing two felony charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious injury to property.
According to court records, if convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to 12 years.
Two days after his arrest, Wilson was released on a $75,000 bond, with a strict court order that he must have no contact with the woman involved in the case.
Early Morning Disturbance on Perkins Road
The incident happened on the morning of January 5 at an apartment complex on Perkins Road in Stillwater. Police officer Christopher Boren responded to a call around 7:30 a.m. regarding a disturbance.
According to his affidavit, the report stated that a man had parked a black Dodge Ram pickup behind a woman’s car, blocking her from leaving, while holding a pair of scissors and trying to get inside her vehicle.
Police Arrive as Situation Escalates
As officers were arriving at the scene, dispatch informed them that the suspect had already slashed several tires and was attempting to leave.
Police were able to stop the vehicle just outside the apartment complex entrance. Officer Boren stated that he exited his vehicle with his service weapon drawn to provide protection while another officer gave commands to the suspect.
Wilson was detained without any struggle, and officers then shifted focus to the victim.
Victim Describes Terrifying Moments
The woman, who was still sitting in her car when police arrived, was described as shaking, crying and clearly very frightened.
She told officers that she had just returned to her apartment and had not yet stepped out of her vehicle when she saw Wilson approach.
She said something about his behaviour made her feel unsafe, so she quickly locked her doors.
According to her statement, Wilson initially got out of his truck and shouted at her. He then got back into his vehicle and moved it behind her car, preventing her from leaving. He came up to her driver’s side door, demanding that she open it, while pulling on the door handle and hitting the window. During this time, he was holding a pair of scissors and continued shouting.
Tires Attacked with Knife
When Wilson realised he could not get into the car, he moved toward the rear tire on the driver’s side and tried to stab it using the scissors, but was unsuccessful. The woman said he then took out a knife and used it to puncture the tire.
He continued by moving to the rear passenger tire and stabbing it, and then to the front passenger tire, causing damage to three tires in total before returning to his truck and leaving the scene.
Officer Boren later confirmed that he observed the driver’s side rear tire completely flat, with air still leaking and visible cuts. He also took photographs of the damage as evidence.
Victim Says She Feared for Her Safety
The woman told police that throughout the incident, she believed that if Wilson managed to get inside her vehicle, he would harm her. She explained that she did not have any relationship with him.
She only knew him casually through mutual friends in Oklahoma City and had seen him at group gatherings. She also stated that Wilson had previously tried to approach her, but she had always rejected him.
Arrest and Evidence Collected
After gathering information from the victim, Officer Boren contacted another officer and confirmed the details. Wilson was then officially placed under arrest and taken to jail. Police recovered the scissors from him, but they did not find the knife used to damage the tires.
This case shows how quickly a situation can turn dangerous, even in a residential setting. The victim’s decision to stay inside her locked car likely prevented the situation from becoming more serious. With strong charges now filed, the court will determine the outcome in the coming months.
The incident also highlights the importance of staying alert and reporting threatening behaviour immediately, as early action can help prevent further harm and ensure safety for everyone involved.
