Authorities in Ohio have solved a long-pending case involving human remains found in suitcases back in 1998. At that time, children discovered a suitcase lying by the roadside. Inside, they found dismembered human remains.
Just a few days later, another suitcase was found in the same area, also containing body parts. Despite collecting DNA evidence, police were unable to identify the victim or find a suspect. The case eventually went cold for many years.
Breakthrough Through DNA Technology
The investigation was reopened in 2023, and modern DNA testing helped authorities finally identify the victim as Lawrence Drotleff. He was 93 years old at the time of his death in 1998.
This breakthrough allowed investigators to take the case forward and uncover what had really happened.
Son Confesses to Dismembering Body
In January 2024, police questioned the victim’s son, Larry Drotleff, who is now 81 years old. During the investigation, he allegedly admitted that he found his father dead at home.
Instead of reporting the death, he claimed that he used a hand saw to cut the body into pieces. He then placed some parts in suitcases and disposed of them, while other remains were reportedly thrown into a dumpster.
